How to Tell If an Online School Is Accredited

Online schools are a dime a dozen and they are accessible all over the world. They offer anything from high school education all the way to PhDs. The student looking to obtain a degree online is free to choose the institution they desire to be in as long as it offers the type of education they are interested in at a cost the student can afford. As a precaution, the student must ensure that the school they are enrolling in is accredited in order to avoid wasting any precious resources like time and money.

Several ways an individual may use to check if a school is accredited are available. It is up to the student to do adequate research about the school before any commitments are made. It is prudent for the individual to get as much information as possible to ensure that the courses, certificates and or degrees that the school offers are not only legal but are acceptable in the country they reside in and preferably even internationally. This can be used for both regular and online schools.

Secondly, the prospective student can check government listings to ensure that the government recognizes the institution and its courses. Thirdly, a simple request to see the licenses and certification paid for at the relevant government ministry is further proof that indeed the institution is recognized. Numerous accrediting agencies available offer accreditation to the different institutions. These agencies also give their certificates to the different schools and go further to list them on the relevant websites. Examples are The North Central Association of Colleges and Schools and the Higher Learning Commission.

If the said school claims to have any affiliates then the individual can go ahead and contact them to ensure that both the school and any of its affiliates are accredited and recognized by the different educational bodies in the country. All in all, it is up to the individual to exercise their rights and wisdom before enrolling in any sort of institution and before they pay for any of the courses they are interested in.
